On Saturday 31/3/12, 6 swimmers took on the Brogo Dam LifeSaving Energy Big Swim. None of us realised how tough it was going to be.
Conditions were perfect.
6 swimmers took on what we thought was going to be a 7km swim
Swimmers (with supporters) from left to right Matthew Nott, Gillian MacMillan, Grant Prowse, Ann Herbert, Giles Ellinworth, Rob Gordign.

Because there was so much water in the Dam, we were able to swim all the way up the Brogo Gorge. Unfortunately at this point we were 5km away from home on the ‘out and back’ course.. What ended up being a 10km swim tested all of us. Grant Prowse stormed home in a record breaking swim, with Rob Gordijn pushing him all the way. Ann Herbert convincingly won the ‘over 50’ category. The 40-50 year category proved popular in this years swim.
We managed to raise $1000 for solar panels for the Upper Brogo Fire Shed. A ‘stand alone’ system for the Fire Shed is going to cost more than that, so we have more work to do.
We had a fantastic back-up team of paddlers. Dr Gabe Khouri provided medical cover, a Tathra surf boat crew kept a watchful eye on the event, and Rudy Warren and Storm provided logistical support.
